Futures Event
Whangarei Golf Club TEAM GOLF 6 event
Team Golf is suitable for chippers and crushers!

A Chipper – is a new player starting their journey in golf, to learn new skills, have fun and make new friends
A Crusher – is a young golfer who is growing a love for the game and developing their confidence and skills on modified course lengths.

Team Golf is open to girls and boys 15 years and younger, all abilities welcome!
The length of the course is shortened to suit young golfers and played over 6 holes. This format creates a fun, low pressure environment to play and learn together! There’s lots of fun on the course and in the clubhouse for the whole family.

How do you play team golf?

The format of play is called Ambrose and we play it as a team.
1. Start each hole by playing off our shortened course, all players take it in turns to hit their first shot and the best positioned ball is selected.
2.This is one shot for scoring purposes. The other players pick up their ball and all players continue to play their next shot from the best positioned ball.
3.Continue this process until the ball is in the hole. Simple!
Pick a cool team name and off you go!
We encourage caregivers to join players on course*

All abilities welcome, payment on the day.

Whangarei Golf Club

Whangarei Golf Club is conveniently situated within a 10-minute drive from the central city area. We have a well-established and challenging 18-hole, 72-par layout  and a modern clubhouse with all facilities. Visitors are always welcome, and whilst the course is easy walking, carts are available for those who prefer. Members of both genders hold competitions on most days and welcome affiliated players to join their haggles. A phone call to 09 437 0775 will inform you of the playing times , and if requested, our golf shop staff will arrange for  visitors to enter the daily haggle and be incorporated into a friendly playing group.

The Whangarei course, often known as "Mount Denby" has been in existence on the same site for more than a century. The first nine, largely unchanged since its establishment, boasts beautiful stands of ancient native trees which guard many of the greens and, despite generous fairways, accurate driving is essential to find a clear pathway to the pin. This nine is relatively short at par 36, 2870 metres but nevertheless represents an excellent challenge for golfers of all levels.

The second nine, more recently designed, is sculpted from the natural contours of the area and has water features on several holes to add risk and reward to the round. Stretched to3026 metres, the challenge here is to make good use of the longer clubs in the bag.

Mt Denby is an all-year all-weather course and is a popular destination when other courses are unplayable.

Full length practice facilities are available, as well as nets, but currently range balls are unavailable.

The extensive upstairs lounge can seat up to 140 people and is open during club tournaments. With a fully equipped, commercially licenced kitchen and a well-stocked bar, the lounge is available for private functions, and is a popular wedding and party venue. Enquiries are welcome during office hours, 09 437 0775

The golf shop is open every day from 8am till 6pm and incorporates a sprigs bar for thirsty golfers. Snack foods are also available.
